How do you fight the lack of motivation to reach your goals?

Always be motivated to achieve a goal isn’t easy. Sometimes we have days when we just want to lie on the couch and disintegrate in front of the TV. Have they ever happened to you these days? Days when you are without motivation?

In this article, I want to talk to you about 10 practical and immediate actions to transform these days, fight your lack of motivation and reach your goals.

Tips to fight the lack of motivation

It just begins. Motivation is a bit like appetite: it comes with eating… er, I meant working. If you don’t feel like studying, open that damn book and start reading the first paragraph. If you don’t feel like going to the gym, put on your sneakers, grab your bag and go out. Don’t think: When you are demotivated, your brain will only give you very good reasons t just start. Everything else will come naturally.

Turn your goals into 1h action

Important goals can keep us busy for months or even years, and it’s easy to lose motivation. In these cases, try breaking down your project into smaller and smaller actions until you find an activity that you can start right away and complete within 1 hour.

Set yourself a challenging deadline

I’ve already told you about how lack of time increases motivation. If you can’t complete a task and things take a long time, set yourself a challenging deadline and start a nice timer. The countdown insight will create a sense of urgency and challenge in you: these two elements are very effective motivators.

Do not rush the stages

At the start of a project or when we set a new goal, our motivation is skyrocketing, but it soon wears off. If you want to keep your motivation level high, learn not to rush through these early stages: have you decided to start running? Do not start immediately by 10 km. Start with small steps and gradually increase. This way, you will distribute your initial motivation.

Record your progress

There is nothing more motivating than seeing a calendar with lots of “x’s” on it, one for each day you took one step closer to your goal. Recording your progress creates a virtuous circle: every time you make progress, your motivation grows and the annoyance of leaving a day without the “x” pushes you to be constant.

Reward yourself

When setting your goal, try to write down immediately what you will give yourself once you hit it. Every time you reach even a small milestone, learn to reward yourself and take away some satisfaction.

Write the 10 “whys” of your goal

A goal without a purpose is a goal you won’t achieve. If you are unmotivated, grab a sheet of paper or open a text file and start writing the 10 reasons you want to reach your goal: how will you feel when you have achieved it? What have you got? How will others see you? Do you want to go back to work right?! 😉

Put an image that remembers your goal in prominent places

Often we are not motivated just because we have forgotten our goals. Try to put images that remember your goal in visible places: on the fridge, on the wall in front of your bed, on the steering wheel of the car… put a little imagination in them. I find custom desktop backgrounds very effective.

Focus on your goal for 5 minutes a day

I believe that focus and action are the two essential ingredients of success. To start a new day with motivation, I often wear the headphones of my iPhone. I put a playlist of pure energy and in those 5 minutes, I imagine in the smallest details how it will be to reach my goal. Pure motivation.

Talk about your goal to the important people in your life

The time has come to empower yourself a little: tell your goal to an important person in your life, a person in front of whom you cannot afford to fail, and a person who will be able to support you in difficult moments and scold you when you slack off.
