As you sleep, your body works to provide you with energy for the next day. Although the brain will be tired after a long day of work, one must push themselves out of bed to jump-start their metabolism. But How to motivate yourself to get out of bed?

It’s not an easy struggle though, as some people are naturally morning people – those who are awake before their alarm goes off. Others are not so lucky to be predisposed with this type of “gift.” But there is still hope.

How to motivate yourself to get out of bed?

1. Have a morning ritual:

Wake up simultaneously every day, no matter what. If you have a morning ritual, it will become part of your internal clock and thus make waking up easier.  It can be as simple as taking a shower or cooking breakfast.

2. Do something nice for yourself:

Treat yourself to a nice breakfast or a cup of hot chocolate. You might still be sluggish from sleep, but the extra sugar will give you an energy boost that will help get your day started.

3. Exercise:

When you exercise in the morning, you’ll feel more energetic throughout the day. Making it easier to get up when the alarm goes off. If you don’t have time for a longer workout, even just 10 minutes of yoga or light weight-lifting is better than nothing.

4. Think about the day ahead:

Before drifting off to sleep, think about what you need to accomplish tomorrow and motivate yourself so that when your alarm goes off in the morning, it will be easier to get up and get going. This is a good replacement for the snooze button.

5. Get your partner in on it:

If you share your bed with someone, they can help motivate you to get out of bed. Ask them to set the alarm and when it goes off, they will shake or poke you until you’re awake enough to start your day.

6. Set reminders:

You could set your phone or an alarm clock to beep multiple times in the morning after you’ve hit the snooze button a few times. This will remind you that it’s time to get up and make sure that you’re getting enough sleep.

7. Get outside:

Some studies have shown that being exposed to sunlight can help regulate the body’s natural cycle so take advantage of the morning sun. Open your blinds or curtains as soon as you wake up or go outside for a quick walk before breakfast.

8. Have no distractions:

When your alarm goes off in the morning, turn it around so that you’re facing the other way. This will prevent you from hitting snooze again and again. If your clock is near your bed, step away from it so that you won’t be tempted to crawl back in.

9. Make sure you’re comfortable:

You might need more than one pillow or a blanket if you find yourself constantly getting cold at night. Investing in comfortable pillows and bedding can save you lots of frustration.

10. Don’t drink caffeine:

Avoid drinking coffee or other caffeinated beverages after 2 pm to ensure that it won’t interfere with your sleep-wake cycle. Drinking caffeine too late will make it harder for you to fall asleep at night. Which means you will be groggy in the morning.

11. Have a proper alarm clock:

If you’re using your phone as an alarm, make sure it is fully charged before going to bed because losing power can lead to missed alarms and late starts.

12. Take short naps during the day:

If you can’t seem to get out of bed in the morning. Take a short nap after lunch or dinner to restore your energy so that it will motivate yourself you’ll be fresh and ready for the day.

13. Don’t check out:

If you’re turning on all these alarms, why not set the alarm for yourself to turn them off before they go off every time? This will prevent you from hitting snooze for an hour. You can also set up a different alarm to remind you when it’s time to stop checking your phone so that you can actually get out of bed.

14. Make sure your room is dark:

Stumbling around in the morning trying to find clothes and brush your teeth is not easy when you’re still half asleep, which is why you need your room to be dark when you’re getting ready. A simple fix would be to get blackout curtains or wear an eye mask so that even if the sun is shining, it won’t affect how tired you feel in the morning.

15. Put things far away:

Before going to bed, put all of your clothes and anything else you’ll need in the morning on your chair or across the room. This will make it easier to get up because you won’t be able to crawl back into bed while looking for these items.

There are many ways to motivate yourself to get out of bed in the morning. The key is to find something that works for you to be ready to start your day.
